About Myself

My goal is to create fun and immersive content, regardless of the media

Hello, my name is Jorge Antão and I recently graduated in Multimedia, at Escola Superior de Media Artes e Design in Porto, Portugal.
During the course I worked in a wide range of areas, including photography, video, design, 3D animation and other things. I learned how to work with a wide range of tools, depending on the desired final product.
My personal goals are to learn and master these tools, in a way I can create fun and immersive content, in a productive way.
My main interests are animation and game design, but I also love working in other areas, such as video, photography, design, illustration, etc...

Bust

Buster, a soldier who gets lost from his platoon after jumping too soon from the plane carrying the soldiers to the battlefield. He lands alone, and loses his backpack with all his equipment, finding himself lost in a dense forest. Far from war, Buster needs to go through the woods to find his way back.

It’s a third person adventure game with a low poly aesthetic, focused on puzzle and riddle solving.

Playable Demo for the short film "8bits"

I was asked to make a small playable demo for the "8bits" project, developed by a group of students finishing their Audiovisual Communication Course at ESMAD.
The game consists in a simple platformer with a unique gameplay mechanic. This feature consists in the player picking up a clock that spawns a copy of the player and repeats its last seconds of movement. This allows for the player to reach higher platforms and continuing its adventure.

Riot

“A twin stick shooter about a police robot who’s in charge of destroying all its enemies, reflecting their own attacks. To do this the character has a shield, whose color he can change. The enemies shoot projectiles in 3 colors (RGB), and the robot is only able to reflect them if its shield matches this color. He also has a dash feature and a pick up which lets him choose the color of the projectiles.”

Game made for the 2019 MAD Game Jam. Developed by a team of three, I was responsible for all the programming and implementation of sound and UI.

Discovery

“We are in the 22nd century and the excessive consumption of mango juice has lead to the thickening of the methane layer and the dearth of oxygen on Earth. Forced to find new means of life, mission SOSMultiXII seeks a new orchard to enjoy. Join us in this rich visual and auditory experience filled with emotion, that will leave you grasping your seat.”

Game developed for the 2018 MAD Game Jam. Made by a team of 5, I was responsible for the programming of some gameplay mechanics.

Other Projects

ANNOYinc

Small project with Arduino and Processing, which tracks peoples faces and points a laser to their eyes. Based on the concept of the futility of things and the value that people give to the “formalities of life”. Me and my partner used Processing to track the user’s face and with the firmata library, pass the values to the servo motors connected to the Arduino.

This project came up after a failed attempt at making a popcorn blaster, which main goal was to point a cannon at people’s mouths and shoot a popcorn.

Other Projects

Nero OS

University project which asked for the development of a narrative and experimental web project. The objective for this work was to create a web project that tried different menu formats and ways of navigating, that could go beyond the strategies commonly used.Made with html, Javascript and JQuery, we developed a small narrative based on a man looking for his missing wife.

The game starts inside the home office of Matthew Forklift, the most acknowledged reporter in the city. We have access to his computer and his emails, and as we read them we unravel the story. In the end, we’ll have some choices to make, which will give us different endings.

Welcome To America

Another university project, in which we had to develop a small video game. The main goal of this was to learn the processes of game development as a team. The group consisted in five elements, and I was responsible for the programming.
We decided to make a Crossy Road inspired game in Unity, with the theme of immigration, racism and the controversial happenings with Trump and the United States.

I was in charge of all the main mechanics and the UI and sound. The only thing I didn’t work on were the collision side checks (to certify that the player wouldn’t move to the place of a cactus/rock/etc…).

Big Fish: The Untold Tales

University project that consisted on developing a small interactive narrative based on a list of given films. Me and a colleague of mine based our project on the film “Big Fish” by Tim Burton.
One of my first “adventures” with Unity and programming. I was responsible for the programming and my partner for the modelling and the level design.

We decided to make a small game which consisted on a character who wakes up in a hospital and has to find his way out by finding keys to the locked doors. After finding his way out he is taken to a forest which has a series of simbolic objects (related to the film), in which he also has to gather.

I have many other prototypes made, some of them in VR. I also made some animations, which you can check in my Vimeo profile.

  • Extracurricular class at Escola Superior de Educação Drawing II

During the last semester of my Multimedia course, I attended drawing classes at Escola Superior de Educação. I chose to frequent this class because drawing was a skill I didn’t have and is very profitable in the game development area

  • Bust Game Development

This projects is the result of the shared interest in videogame development and design by the three members of the group. It’s a third person adventure game with a low poly aesthetic, focused on puzzle and riddle solving.
Project made for the final evaluation of my Multimedia degree. I worked with two more colleagues of mine, and was in charge of all the necessary programming, from the base mechanics, until the UI and sound implementation. My partners were in charge of modelling, texturing, level design and most of the UI design.

    Wireless Networks Workshop

Artificial Intelligence always sparked my interest, so I took the opportunity and went to INESC TEC's Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) open day.
This year's initiative was focused on Machine Learning, Wireless Networks, Creative Music and Wireless Power. The Artificial Intelligence workshop was the one who sold me, and I ended up going to the Wireless Networks one as well.
